Tejaswini Vijapurapu is a second year MPA student at the University of Washington and will serve as the CISS 2020-2021 Board Fellow. She is currently interning at the King County Auditor’s Office, working on improving the county’s pandemic response. Originally from India, Tejaswini volunteered with non-profits that focused on educational equity. As her passion in the field grew, she went on to work for Teach for India, where she witnessed the alarming state of public schooling in her country. To explore the state of education abroad, she interned with a non-profit in Chicago that provided after-school support to refugee girls. She believes there is an urgent need, across the world, to close opportunity gaps for students coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. Her passion to create support structures for students who need it the most resonates with the mission of Communities in Schools of Seattle. When she’s not juggling school, her internship and CISS, you will find her practicing yoga or learning skateboarding tricks.
